California, the Golden State
Our explorations of the Golden State have mainly focused on Southern California’s Death Valley and the area around the Salton Sea.
Aguereberry – an old Death Valley mining camp.
Bombay Beach – a former Salton Sea resort town that’s become an eclectic collection of art, mobile homes, small homes, and shacks.
Calexico – a California / Mexico border town in Imperial County.
Chloride – an old Death Valley mining town now a ghost town.
Felicity – where you’ll find the center of the world or so they claim!
Jacumba Hot Springs – a small desert town in Southwestern California located close to the border.
Slab City – the last “free” place in America where snowbirds, artists, drug addicts, and others reside side by side at an old military base.
Tumco – previously known as Hedges, this Imperial County ghost town is located off I-8 near Winterhaven, California.
Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, Twentynine Palms – a collection of San Bernardino County oddities that we spotted in these towns.
